After intense negotiations with California politicians who sought to remove the Save Prop 13 Initiative from the November ballot, Reform California Chairman Carl DeMaio is celebrating a major win for taxpayers in their fight to block unfair and costly tax hikes across California.
Working with through a powerful anti-tax coalition led by Howard Jarvis Taxpayers' Association, DeMaio applauds the placement of the Save Prop 13 Initiative on the ballot for a November vote — and the removal of a competing measure from the ballot that would have threatened the anti-tax campaign Reform California and HJTA are planning to wage.
DeMaio offers the following statement:
"California taxpayers are sick of constant tax hikes and deserve protection. The Save Prop 13 Initiative that will appear on the November ballot is a game-changer in the fight against unfair and costly tax hikes.
Most importantly, the Save Prop 13 Initiative will make it harder for politicians to raise our taxes by restoring the two-thirds vote threshold on local tax hikes and capping property taxes in excess of limits originally imposed by Prop 13 in 1978.
I want to thank our supporters for this win — and applaud the leadership of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association for standing firm in this fight.
CA Democrats and tax-raising special interests will still oppose our measure, but Reform California is committing and ready to mount an aggressive campaign to pass it this November."
