Reform California has launched one of the largest grassroots mail campaigns in state history—1.5 million handwritten letters urging voters to back Voter ID and reject Gov. Gavin Newsom's corrupt Prop 50 scheme.
“This isn’t mass-produced junk mail, these are personal handwritten letters from real Californians who are fed up with the corruption in Sacramento and want their voices heard,” said Carl DeMaio. “We’re proving that people power can beat political insiders and their big-money schemes.”
A “Buy One, Get One” Campaign
Earlier this month, Carl DeMaio launched his statewide canvass drive to gather the 1 million signatures needed to qualify the Voter ID initiative for the ballot. At the same time, the campaign has mobilized its volunteer network to alert voters about Prop 50, which would overturn California’s independent redistricting commission and hand power back to politicians behind closed doors.
DeMaio calls the effort a “buy-one-get-one campaign.”
“Not only are we qualifying Voter ID, but we’re also making sure every voter understands that Prop 50 is nothing but a scam to let corrupt politicians pick their own districts,” DeMaio said.
Grassroots vs. Political Establishment
The 1.5 million handwritten letters represent a massive undertaking by Reform California’s volunteer army. Instead of relying on expensive consultants and glossy corporate mailers, the group is mobilizing everyday Californians to write directly to their neighbors in their own words.
“These handwritten letters carry weight because not only is it a lot of work but they’re personal and authentic,” said DeMaio. “Politicians may have the money, but we have the people—and that’s far more powerful.”
Reform California and Carl DeMaio are calling on more volunteers to help expand the handwritten letter campaign and reach even more voters.
“Every letter, every signature, every door knocked brings us closer to restoring election integrity with Voter ID and defeating Prop 50’s corrupt power grab,” said DeMaio.
