As California voters prepare for the November election, Reform California Chairman and State Assemblymember Carl DeMaio is sounding the alarm after Reform California identified 328 local tax hikes were identified on ballots across California.
Many of these tax hikes are buried behind vague or misleading ballot language promising funding for popular priorities like “public safety,” “infrastructure,” and “community services” — without making the true cost to taxpayers clear.
“This is how politicians get tax hikes passed — hide the price tag, use deceptive ballot language, and hope voters don’t read the fine print,” DeMaio said.
Reform California is urging voters to carefully review every local measure on their ballot before voting and look beyond misleading titles and descriptions to understand what each measure will actually cost.
