Reform California Chairman and CA State Assemblyman Carl DeMaio is taking the campaign for Proposition 39 on the road, launching a 35-day statewide bus tour Tuesday, September 29, that will include 71 events across California.
DeMaio, who authored Proposition 39, will headline events throughout the state alongside local elected officials and civic leaders as the campaign makes its case for what it describes as a bipartisan and balanced approach to implementing Voter ID while preserving mail balloting.
The tour begins just days before California counties are required to start mailing vote-by-mail ballots on October 5 and will continue through November 2, the day before Election Day. DeMaio will travel the state in a large yellow “Yes on Prop 39” bus, with candidates and local leaders joining him at stops along the way.
“Over the next 35 days of 71 events, we are looking forward to making our case for Prop 39’s bipartisan solution to Voter ID in every single part of California,” DeMaio said.
Beyond rallies, the tour will also serve as a major organizing push for Reform California. At each stop, DeMaio and the Prop 39 campaign plan to explain the measure to voters, distribute Reform California’s “Plain English” Voter Guides, train canvassers and volunteers, and make the case that Proposition 39 offers a balanced approach to Voter ID while preserving vote-by-mail and keeping voting simple.
The statewide tour will take the campaign through communities across Northern, Central and Southern California, with designated press conferences also planned in Sacramento, San Jose, San Diego and Los Angeles.

After the final tour stop on November 2, Reform California will hold an Election Night Party on Tuesday, November 3 at the Legacy Resort Hotel & Spa in San Diego, where attendees will watch election returns and the Prop 39 campaign will hold a rally as initial results come in.
Proposition 39 would require government-issued identification for in-person voting and the last four digits of a designated government-issued identification number for mail ballots. The measure would also require the state to provide voter identification cards on request and add citizenship-verification requirements for election officials.
DeMaio and Reform California have positioned Proposition 39 as a bipartisan alternative to other voter identification proposals because it preserves California’s vote-by-mail system while adding identification requirements. The campaign also says nearly half of the signatures collected to qualify the initiative for the ballot came from Democratic and independent voters.
