Newsom Unveils Partisan Redistricting Plan to Protect Corrupt Politicians

Gov. Gavin Newsom believes that politicians should choose their voters – rather than the voters choosing their politicians!

Last week, Newsom unveiled his outrageous plan to disregard election maps devised by the California Citizens’ Redistricting Commission and replace them with new election maps that Democrat campaign operatives concocted with the goal of eliminating 8 of the Republican districts left in the state.

“This is an illegal, mid-cycle redistricting plot to rig California’s elections for decades,” said CA State Rep. Carl DeMaio.  

“Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican voter, you have to acknowledge that Newsom’s scheme is not just unfair, it sets a dangerous precedent allowing politicians to protect other corrupt politicians by rigging district lines,” DeMaio added.  

Newsom plans to call a Special Session of the State Legislature to authorize a complete redraw of Congressional and legislative districts – even though California voters already approved a nonpartisan redistricting process through the independent commission. But Newsom and his cronies are plotting to override the will of voters and seize back control over the mapmaking process.  

Newsom's Scheme:  

• Calls for a Special Session to redraw Congressional and legislative districts with the explicit goal of eliminating GOP seats.  

The Scam:

• Newsom will deploy Democrat strategists to rig district maps, silencing Republican voters and cementing Democrat majorities.

The Stakes:

• Republicans could lose 8 Congressional seats and dozens of legislative seats – ensuring permanent Democrat supermajority control in California.

“This is the ultimate corruption—politicians picking their voters instead of voters picking their politicians,” DeMaio said. “It’s a blatant attempt to rig the system and silence Republican voices statewide.”  

To fight back against this corruption, Carl DeMaio is executing a 3-Step plan to block Newsom's power grab:

1. File Lawsuits: Immediate legal action in state and federal courts to halt the redistricting process.

2. Targeted Recalls: Launch recalls against legislators who vote to advance Newsom’s illegal plan –potentially on the same ballot as the new districts.  

3. Referendum Strategy: If passed, DeMaio will file a statewide referendum to suspend the law and place it before voters in 2026.  

“This is a fight for the future of fair elections in California,” DeMaio said. “If Newsom gets away with this, Republicans may never have a path to power in this state again.”  

Newsom’s Special Session is expected within weeks, leaving little time to mount a defense. DeMaio is urgently raising funds to fight back through legal challenges, recalls, and voter education efforts.  

“Every dollar counts in the fight to stop this power grab,” DeMaio said. “We are calling on all Californians who care about election integrity to join us.”
