In just twenty days, Reform California and its army of grassroots volunteers have collected over 300,000 signatures for the California Voter ID Initiative—a record breaking start toward the 874,641 signatures needed to qualify the measure for the November 2026 ballot.
“This is a huge milestone,” said Carl DeMaio. “The political establishment said we couldn’t do it—but the people of California are proving them wrong. This is real, it’s powerful, and it’s growing by the day.”
DeMaio says the initiative’s early success proves that Californians are hungry for change—and tired of politicians who refuse to secure the state’s elections.
“This is what people power looks like,” said DeMaio. “We’re not waiting for the media or the political establishment to give us permission to fix our broken system—we're taking action ourselves.”
DeMaio and Reform California have deployed more than 14,000 volunteers trained and deployed across the state to collect signatures at community events, rallies and neighborhood tables.
“We’ve built a grassroots army that’s unstoppable,” DeMaio said. “People are showing up at every stop on our statewide bus tour to sign petitions, grab voter ID kits, and get their friends involved. You can see the frustration with Sacramento—and the determination to take our state back.”
What the CA Voter ID Initiative Does
The California Voter ID Initiative would:
- Require voters to show a government-issued photo ID when voting in person
- Require voters to include the last four digits of their ID number when voting by mail
- Require election officials to verify citizenship of all registered voters
- Clean up voter rolls and hold election officials accountable for accuracy
- Provide free voter ID cards to anyone who needs one.
With just six months to gather all required signatures, Carl DeMaio says the campaign’s early surge has “shaken” Sacramento politicians and activists who have long opposed election integrity measures.
“This is just the beginning,” said DeMaio. “We’re going to be in every city, every county, and every neighborhood. We’re going to give every voter a chance to sign, volunteer, and stand up for election integrity.”
“The people of California want voter ID—and the only ones standing in the way are the politicians who benefit from the chaos in our elections
DeMaio urges for supporters to get involved now:
“Don't just agree with us—join us. Sign the petition, collect signatures, come to a rally, and help us restore honesty and accountability in California’s elections.
